Speaker profile:

Prof Connie Weyand, M.D., Ph.D. is the Chief of the Division of Immunology and Rheumatology at Stanford University School of Medicine (2013- present). She is the Carnegie Centenary Professor hosted by the University of Glasgow: a scheme that aims to stimulate new collaborations and interactions between Scottish universities and overseas research institutes.


Clinicians in Research Network (CiRN) and the ICAMS/IIIs Network for Early Career Researcher Development (NERD) are delighted to host this exciting event tailored for all early career researchers interested in translational research and academic career paths in the United States (US).

Particular emphasis will be placed on the following topics:

  • Overview of academic career track in the US and how to get tenure (for both clinical and non-clinical researchers)
  • Opportunities for working in the US as a post-doctoral researcher/ fellow (e.g. fellowship schemes)
  • Hints and tips on networking with US-based academics, including collaborating on National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants
  • Sharing of personal experiences:
    • Life as a clinician-scientist (with tips on fostering interactions with scientists)
    • Life as a clinician and scientist trained in Europe relocated to the USA
